After a long haul, lots of prayers and a four month programme of intensive therapy and rehabilitation at the Children’s Trust, Tadworth in Surrey, Kye Kye made great improvements. Although her life may differ from those of others her age, she is still our beautiful, special baby girl.
Kye Kye’s fine motor skills are behind for her age, but she is improving every day. She has, since her illness, achieved crawling, standing with assistance and even at one point attempting to take small steps with support. Ruquaya is a very happy baby, despite her illness and the difficulties she faces. She is always smiling and laughing, filling everyone around her with a great sense of Hope, and reminding us never to give up. She learnt to live and get on as best she could with the abilities she still had.
Since Kye Kye returned home after intensive input from The Children’s Trust, with abilities we could only dream she would develop, it soon became apparent that this type of input would not continue to be available in the community. Facilities were not available for children like Kye Kye, and those that were available, were very difficult and expensive to gain access to. Inevitably, Kye Kye began to regress and lost many of the skills she developed at The Children’s Trust. This was a very distressing time for me and the family; we felt as though we were losing our battle. That was when I decided to look for help for my daughter elsewhere.
